Happy New Year!! We look at the New Year as a time to make positive changes in our lives and find ways to be happier and healthier, but where do we start?
One of the most important pieces of advice I can offer is this: Read the label on everything you buy, especially your food. You might be shocked at how much sodium and fat is in everything. Soy and or high fructose corn syrup is in everything, too. MSG… Hydrolyzed whatever-the-heck-blech!!
Teach your kids to read food labels, too. My son has been a label reader since he began learning to read. We don’t buy prepackaged crackers-and-cheese lunches for him and he won’t touch them if his buddies offer. I can’t say that there is NO pre-packaged food in my house, but what little there is – you can bet that we’ve all read the label and we know (as well as you can know) what we are eating.
Stop buying chemical laden seasonings and sauces and learn to make your own – it’s not difficult and there are websites everywhere with recipes to get you started, and I’ll be posting some of mine. This is another reason it’s a good idea to learn to cook.
There is no better time to start taking better care of yourself and your family, no matter who you are. Here are a few places to start:
Make your own laundry soap
Make your own pancake and biscuit mix
Make your own household cleaners
